So you've been accepted and now you're thinking about where you'll live? Or maybe you're just really excited and thinking ahead. The first thing I want you to know is that roommates matter far more than which complex you end up in. That being said, first I will share a general overview of the complexes and then I'll compare them by price, transportation, and the people you commonly find in them. Chatham Square This is the apartment I lived in during my last program. I would describe this as the most "normal" complex. Chatham is home to most of the housing events. Buses: All buses stop outside security in front of the Chatham Clubhouse. Buses usually wait here for five to ten minutes. Laundry: There are laundry facilities in four out of thirty buildings. What's Nearby: It's across the street from Patterson Court and Mickey's Retreat and a 10 minute walk from The Commons (which is across the street from the outlet mall) and a 15 minute walk to Publix. Amenities: Fitness Center, Mickey Shaped pool, volleyball court, outdoor pool table, tennis court, front desk, service center, computer center Pros: housing events, buses, price, none of the apartments are too far from the clubhouse Cons: housing events, buses can be loud for apartments close to the road, all apartments are outdated and need some updating. Apartment Sizes and Prices: 1BR 2 Person- $120/wk 1BR 3 Person- $105/wk 2BR 4 Person- $115/wk 2BR 6 Person- $93/wk 3BR 6 Person- $107/wk 4BR 8 Person- $106/wk **All housing prices are subject to change Patterson CourtMany of my friends lived at Patterson Court during my last program and it's my second choice for this next program. It's the newest and nicest of the complexes with the largest apartments, for this reason it can be the most expensive. Sometimes it's known as the "senior living" complex because it's rumored that the older CPs like to live here. Buses: The only bus that stops here is the leisure H bus that goes to walmart. To take buses to work you will need to walk an extra five minutes from the enterance of PC to Chatham. Laundry: There are laundry facilities in four out of sixteen buildings. What's Nearby: It's across the street from Chatham Square and a 10 minute walk from The Commons (which is across the street from the outlet mall) and a 15 minute walk to Publix. Amenities: Fitness Center (rumored to be the nicest), pool, outdoor pool table, front desk, service center, computer center Pros: quietest complex, newest, largest apartments Cons: no buses, price Apartment Sizes and Prices: 1BR 2 Person- $120/wk 1BR 3 Person- $105/wk 2BR 4 Person- $115/wk 2BR 5 Person- $100/wk 3BR 6 Person- $107/wk The CommonsMy best friends lived in this complex during my last program. The Commons was the second complex to join the DCP family. For many years it was only available to international participants. About half of the apartments have been updated recently. Buses: Most buses stop inside security in front of the clubhouse. Many people worry about the fact that only most buses stop here, but the only buses that don't stop here are buses that only stop at resorts, and you can always request them. Laundry: There are laundry facilities in every apartment, which is the biggest selling point for these apartments. What's Nearby: It's down the street and a 10 minute walk from from Patterson Court, Chatham Square, and Mickey's Retreat. The apartments are also across the street from an outlet mall and a 15 minute walk from Publix. Amenities: Fitness Center, pool, sand volleyball court, tennis court, front desk, service center, computer center Pros: The Grid (a small convenience store) is located here, laundry is included in each apartment, updated apartments are nice Cons: buses, most expensive, older apartments are in desperate need of an update, some apartments are very far from the clubhouse Apartment Sizes and Prices: 1BR 2 Person- $124/wk 1BR 3 Person- $109/wk 2BR 4 Person- $122/wk 2BR 5 Person- $102/wk 3BR 6 Person- $110/wk 4BR 8 Person- $109/wk Vista wayThis is the original DCP apartment complex. For this reason it is the oldest. Some of the apartments have been updated but many still need updating. It's also sometimes known as the "party complex" it gains this reputation from past experiences, but that just leads to more people who want that living there so it stays that way. Ultimately it matters more who your roommates are whether you'll have a problem with it. Buses: Vista Way is the bus hub, all buses stop here. Often the buses stay parked here for 30-45 minutes. Laundry: There are laundry facilities on the first floor of every building. What's Nearby: Vista Way is a 5-15 minute drive from the rest of the complexes however it is a very short walk to walgreens, wendys, chick-fil-a, Cici's pizza, and more. Amenities: Fitness Center, two pools, basketball court, volleyball court, outdoor pool table, tennis court, front desk, service center, Pros: some housing events are held here, cheapest housing, buses, updated apartments are nice, proximity to fast (cheap) food Cons: "party complex", distance from other complexes, renovated apartments aren't very nice Apartment Sizes and Prices: 2BR 4 Person- $111/wk 3BR 6 Person- $101/wk Comparing the ComplexesWhen considering your complex it's important to consider what is most important to you. For some people this can be the price, for others the transportation, and for others the atmosphere and people. Transportation: Vista Way: The main bus hub, all buses stop here, buses wait here the longest Chatham Square: All buses stop here, all apartments are pretty close to the buses The Commons: Most buses stop here, some apartments are a long walk from the buses Patterson Court: No buses stop here, however Chatham Square is a 5 minute walk Atmosphere and People: Vista Way: the "party complex" Chatham Square: the most "normal", housing events are here The Commons: lots of internationals live here Patterson Court: "senior living" complex Price: CS 2BR 6 Person- $93/wk PC 2BR 5 Person- $100/wk VW 3BR 6 Person- $101/wk TC 2BR 5 Person- $102/wk CS 1BR 3 Person- $105/wk PC 1BR 3 Person- $105/wk CS 4BR 8 Person- $106/wk CS 3BR 6 Person- $107/wk PC 3BR 6 Person- $107/wk TC 4BR 8 Person- $109/wk TC 1BR 3 Person- $109/wk TC 3BR 6 Person- $110/wk VW 2BR 4 Person- $111/wk CS 2BR 4 Person- $115/wk PC 2BR 4 Person- $115/wk CS 1BR 2 Person- $120/wk PC 1BR 2 Person- $120/wk TC 2BR 4 Person- $122/wk TC 1BR 2 Person- $124/wk If you have any more questions feel free to comment below!
